Informational use only
This site tells you whether an International Driving Permit is commonly required for a given license and destination pair. It is a research starting point, not legal advice, and it does not create any professional or advisory relationship between you and us.
Driving requirements depend on facts this tool does not know: how long you are staying, your residency status, the vehicle class, your age, whether you are working or studying in the country, and the policy of the specific rental company. Always confirm with the destination's embassy or consulate and your national automobile association before you travel.
No warranty on accuracy
The underlying ruleset is compiled from public sources and is US-centric; only part of it has been individually verified, with EU/EEA mutual recognition being the one broad exception. Rules also change without notice. We therefore provide the site "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the information is accurate, complete, or current, or that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or reliance on its information - including fines, denied rentals, invalidated insurance, missed travel, vehicle impoundment, or any indirect or consequential loss. You use the information at your own risk.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
We are independent
This is an independent resource for travelers. We are not sponsored by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or funded by any government agency, automobile association, or official body - including AAA, which is named here only because it is the authorized IDP issuer in the United States.
We do not sell International Driving Permits and we never will. If a site offers to sell you an "international driver's license", treat it as fraudulent: legitimate IDPs are issued only by authorized organizations in your own country.
Acceptable use
You may use this site for personal and commercial trip planning, and you may link to it freely. You may not misrepresent its output as an official determination, use it to operate a service that sells permits, or attempt to disrupt the site or the hosting infrastructure it runs on.
Third-party links
The site links to government sites, embassies, and automobile associations for verification. We do not control that content and are not responsible for it. A link is not an endorsement.
Intellectual property
The site name, wording, and design are ours. Factual requirements - which countries require an IDP - are facts and are not claimed as property. You are welcome to check a fact here and cite the official source you confirm it against.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the site changes. The effective date at the top reflects the current version, and continuing to use the site after an update means you accept it.
